- Housing is the most basic and fundamental shelter that illustrates the time’s culture; it encloses the person’s life and the user’s living. Furthermore, housing these days have unique characters that reflect various demands of the individual, create spaces for communication with consideration of the city and the environment the individual is living in, and also become new type of housing by investing and development. However, the owner and the architect value the local housing culture and sustainability and think about how the housing spaces can adapt to the new society. They also personality to be an important factor, and target for efficiency at the same time. Current housing is built with spaces designed to individual’s life style, flexibility, and sustainability. This book aims to illustrate these thoughts of the owner and the architect.
- First chapter looks into traditional housing that ‘reflects the time’s culture’, and the second chapter listens to architects that fight at the forefront, faced by challenges of housing today. The third chapter focuses on how the architects around the world sketch the owner’s lifestyle within the housing design. Depending on the lifestyle, this chapter is then subdivided into detached house, multi-family/social housing, and multipurpose building. Sometimes there are projects that wandered between detached and multi-family or multi-family and multipurpose housing. If the design intent was focused on the occupant’s individual life style, the design reflected the detached type, and if focused on the master planning for groups of people, it reflected the multi-family type. Also, just because the program included retail community space, it did not automatically become a multi-purpose building, but was dependent on whether the space was for the occupant or the external user’s lifestyle. If for the occupant, the project was illustrated as a new type of multi-family housing that reflects today’s demands, and if for the external user, it was illustrated as a multi-purpose building. Then finally in the epilogue, the book takes a trip to various housing projects around the world.
